Infant Observation
‘If you ever get a chance to take part in an infant observation I would say put aside your anxieties and allow yourself to embark on a truly rich and unforgettable journey’ Psychotherapy trainee
Watching a baby grow into a person, week by week in their home environment and in their relationships with carers, can put an observer deeply in touch with early feelings and experiences.
Regular visits and holding the non-intrusive observer role strengthens our capacity as therapists or health professionals to keep still, to contain anxiety, to listen and feel with others.
Discussing observations in a small, confidential group enables shared trust and understanding to grow in us.
I sometimes run an Infant Observation group on behalf of the British Psychotherapy Foundation. Please contact me for more details, or visit the BPF Infant Observation page
